Our Value
This terms value is: Generosity
Numeracy
We have recently started using Big Maths as a mental Maths scheme. During these sessions children work on things such as their quick recall of times tables, number bonds and fact families. They complete a CLIC test every Friday and love challenging themselves to beat their last score.
Dosbarth Sycamore also enjoy spending time practicing the skills they have been taught on websites such as Top marks and Times Table Rock Stars. Both are linked below if your child would like to go on these at home!
Literacy
All children have a reading book from the school to bring home each week and practice. Reading books are changed every week depending on which day is your child/ren's reading day is. Please could your child bring their reading book in on their groups correct day.
Group oren - Monday
Group melyn - Tuesday
Group gwyrdd - Wednesday
Group glas - Thursday
Group coch - Friday
Reading with your child is essential for their development. This could be reading stories to them as well as your child reading to you. Please use the reading record supplied to note how your child has done with their reading and if they found any words tricky.
Children are also learning to spell the first 100 High Frequency Words. These 100 words are a key tool to ensure children can complete literacy work in class independently and without struggle. Children will be tested on their spelling list each Wednesday so please practice these at home. Children can also practice their spellings on Spelling Shed, an app that uses their individual spelling targets and creates games to learn them!
Topic
This term the overarching theme is 'One Community, Many Voices'. The big questions that we will be learning is 'How do people in our community celebrate other faiths and cultures?'.
Pupil Voice
We began this topic by having a big classroom discussion on what we thought our overarching theme and questions meant. Learners decided on three religions that they wanted to learn about over the term. These were Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism. For our immersion day, we took a trip to Cardiff to visit a Synagogue and a Temple. This gave Dosbarth Sycamore a good insight into two different religions. We were lucky enough to explore and ask questions about a topic that we were not very familiar with.
