Welcome to/ Croeso i Dosbarth Sycamore!

We are a mixed Year 3 and 4 class in Cwmbach Church in Wales Primary School.

    Staff:

      Class teacher: Mrs S Thomas

      HLTA: Miss C Williams

      Additional practitioner: Mrs C Pritchard

Our Learning

Our overarching theme for the whole school is "The World as I know it".

Dosbarth Sycamore's big question is:

"How can we make Cwmbach a better place for children?"

Blended learning

We have multiple ways to keep up with what is going on each week in Dosbarth Sycamore.

Photos and class information/ announcements are shared on Dojo.

The school's weekly newsletter is also posted each Friday, filled with information and important dates. It is worth checking Dojo regularly to ensure you don't miss any information shared.

Dojo is also a good way to communicate with the class teacher.

Seesaw is used to share work that has taken place during the week in class that won't be in your child's book. This could vary from practical tasks, visitors into the school, theme days and celebrations, school trips and so much more.

Children have their own log in for Spelling Shed and Times Tables Rock Stars. If they need a new login, please contact a class teacher.

Our Value

This terms value is Friendship.

“A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.”

Numeracy

Dosbarth Sycamore start each day with The 99 Club. We have been working hard on our mental maths skills and The Club 99 has become a class favourite! Everyone is keen to progress and gets very excited when they move up through the clubs.

The aim of The 99 club is to encourage pupils to improve their mental maths whilst increasing speed and confidence. Children know which club they are in 99 Club and are welcome to practice at home, if your child is unsure of the club they are in then please contact a class teacher.

Dosbarth Sycamore also enjoy spending time practicing the skills they have been taught on websites such as Top marks and Times Table Rock Stars. Both are linked below if your child would like to go on these at home!

Literacy

All children have a reading book from the school to bring home each week and practice. Reading books are changed on a Friday, ready to be taken home for the weekend. Every child needs to bring their reading book and reading record to school each Monday to read with a teacher and have their book changed.

Reading with your child is essential for their development. This could be reading stories to them as well as your child reading to you. Please use the reading record supplied to note how your child has done with their reading and if they found any words tricky.

Children are also learning to spell the first 100 High Frequency Words. These 100 words are a key tool to ensure children can complete literacy work in class independently and without struggle. Children will be tested on their spelling list each Wednesday so please practice these at home. Children can also practice their spellings on Spelling Shed, an app that uses their individual spelling targets and creates games to learn them!
