Summer 24 - How can one person change the world?

Children in Dosbarth Oak enjoyed reading David Walliams' Awful Auntie last term as their whole class guided reading text. They were then lucky enough to visit the New Theatre in Cardiff to watch the live performance of the show. A fantastic time was had by all!

This term our big questions is 'How can one person change the world?' The children held lots of discussions about things that they may like to cover during this topic and have come up with the following list. This will be added to as the term progresses and children will have input into their fortnightly missions.

- Looking at inspirational people including :- Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Mr Beast, The British Royal family and the Prime Minister.

-Looking at people in sport and the Olympics and Paralympics.

- Improving their own community by giving back their time - conducting a litter pick, helping at the local food bank, donating to the homeless, helping younger children learn new things, helping charities.

- Inventors and how they have shaped the past and will shape the future.

Looking at how people may have made negative changes on the world for example Hitler and Putin.

-Developing their own beings by putting on an end of year show and improving their confidence.

We look forward to seeing where the term leads us and are excited to begin our learning.

Immersion day

For the beginning of this topic we went on a walk around the local community to observe what could be improved. During this walk we conducted a litter pick of the community. We were astounded by the amount of litter we found and also the lack of bins around the local area.

Speeches

We have been learning how to write a speech and decided to write speeches to the local community and the assembly member to talk to them about the rubbish we observed during our recent litter pick of the community. Watch a selection of them below.

Martin Luther King Jr

Children listened to the famous 'I have a dream' speech by Martin Luther King Jr. They then used this to inspire their art work.
